Background: A growing body of literature classifies autism spectrum disorder (ASD) as a heterogeneous, complex neurodevelopmental disorder that often is identified prior to three years of age. We aim to provide a narrative review of key structural and functional properties that differentiate the neuroimaging profile of autistic youth from their typically developing (TD) peers across different neuroimaging modalities.

Methods: Relevant studies were identified by searching for key terms in PubMed, with the most recent search conducted on September 1, 2023.

Microalgal solutions to clean waste streams and produce biomass were evaluated in Nordic conditions during winter, spring, and autumn in Southeast Sweden. The study investigated nitrogen (N) removal, biomass quality, and safety by treating industrial leachate water with a polyculture of local microalgae and bacteria in open raceway ponds, supplied with industrial CO effluent. Total N (TN) removal was higher in spring (1.

Article Synopsis
  • Effective treatments for eating disorders (EDs) in patients with complex posttraumatic stress disorder (cPTSD) are urgently needed, as these individuals often face prolonged treatment and worse outcomes due to early childhood maltreatment.* -
  • The study emphasizes the importance of focusing on disturbances in self-organisation (DSO) and the therapeutic alliance (TA) during treatment, suggesting that ignoring emotional and relational aspects can hinder progress.* -
  • The authors recommend further research on TA processes, alongside standard ED treatments like nutrition and behavior modification, to improve outcomes for those with cPTSD-ED.*

Background: Forefoot surgery is associated with severe postoperative pain. Ankle and sciatic nerve blocks provide satisfactory postoperative analgesia after forefoot surgery, but little is known on their respective duration of analgesia.

Objective: This randomised controlled, single-blinded trial tested the hypothesis that after forefoot surgery in the setting of multimodal analgesia, an ankle block provides analgesia superior to that of a sciatic nerve block at the popliteal crease.

Background: Alpha-1-acid glycoprotein is an acute-phase protein with a high affinity for amide local anesthetics. Compared to adults, neonates have lower concentrations of this glycoprotein in plasma, and are therefore at higher risk of developing local anesthetic toxicity. Alpha-1-acid glycoprotein concentrations rise in adults after surgery as a response to stress as well as in inflammatory conditions.
