Acute kidney injury (AKI) is a public health concern associated with high rates of mortality, even in milder cases. One of the reasons for the difficulty in managing AKI in patients is due to its association with pre-existing comorbidities, such as diabetes. In fact, diabetes increases the susceptibility to develop more severe AKI after renal ischemia.

The spatial arrangement of organisms is significantly influenced by the structure of vegetation. Bromeliads, characterized by a remarkable architectural design featuring rosette-like leaf arrangements for rainwater storage, act as habitats for various organisms. These organisms use bromeliads for shelter, foraging, reproduction and the supply of nutrients and moisture.

Due to the lucrative nature of specialty coffees, there have been instances of adulteration where low-cost materials are mixed in to increase the overall volume, resulting in illegal profit. A widely used and recommended approach to detect possible adulteration is the application of one-class classifiers (OCC), which only require information about the target class to build the models. Thus, this work aimed to identify adulterations in specialty coffees with low-quality coffee using multielement analysis determined by ICP-MS and to evaluate the performance of one-class classifiers (dd-SIMCA, OCRF, and OCPLS).

Focal segmental glomerulosclerosis (FSGS) is the leading cause of nephrotic syndrome, which is characterized by podocyte injury. Given that the pathophysiology of nondiabetic glomerulosclerosis is poorly understood and targeted therapies to prevent glomerular disease are lacking, we decided to investigate the tight junction protein claudin-1 and the histone deacetylase sirtuin-1 (SIRT1), which are known to be involved in podocyte injury. For this purpose, we first examined SIRT1, claudin-1 and podocin expression in kidney biopsies from patients diagnosed with nondiabetic FSGS and found that upregulation of glomerular claudin-1 accompanies a significant reduction in glomerular SIRT1 and podocin levels.

Objective: To evaluate immunogenicity and reactogenicity of yellow fever (YF) vaccine in people with HIV (PWH) compared to HIV-uninfected controls.

Design: In this longitudinal interventional trial (NCT03132311), PWH with CD4 + cell count ≥200 cells/μl and controls, aged 18-59, without a previous history of YF vaccination received a single standard dose of YF vaccine (17DD) and were followed at Days 5, 30 and Year 1.

Methods: YF-neutralization titers were measured at Days 0, 30 and Year 1 and geometric mean titers (GMT) were calculated.
