[Adjuvant Surgery for Initially Unresectable Locally Advanced Pancreatic Cancer following Gemcitabine and S-1 Chemotherapy--A Case Report].

A man in his 60s was admitted with obstructive jaundice. A hypovascular tumor, 55 mm in diameter, was detected in the pancreas head on imaging. The superior mesenteric vein showed severe stenosis bilaterally and the roots of all branches were invaded by the tumor.

[Fibrin glue injection therapy with diluted thrombin for complicated postoperative fistulas following digestive surgery].

Fibrin glue injection is used for treating postoperative digestive fistulas; however, this method is not always successful, especially in cases of complicated fistulas. Generally, the fibrin glue coagulates immediately after application before it reaches the end of the fistulas. Based on the results of an in vitro study of tensile strength and coagulation time, we utilized fibrin glue injection therapy with diluted thrombin solution (× 30) for treating refractory postoperative complicated fistulas in 23 cancer patients.

[Surgical treatment for gall bladder cancer with a confluence stone-a case report].

The patient was a 71-year-old man. In September 2011, he experienced abdominal pain with high fever. Abdominal computed tomography (CT) diagnosed acute cholecystitis with a confluence stone (corlette classification type II).

A water-soluble extract from Grifola frondosa, maitake mushroom, decreases lipid droplets in brown adipocyte tissue cells.

We investigated the effect of a water-soluble extract from Grifola frondosa, the maitake mushroom, on lipid droplets in brown adipocyte tissue (BAT) cells. This water-soluble extract inhibits the conversion of pre white adipocyte tissue (WAT) cells but does not inhibit that of pre BAT cells. It reduces the amount of accumulated triglycerides (TG) in BAT cells.

Bioactive substance from Grifola frondosa (maitake) mushroom inhibits CCAAT enhancer binding protein beta and delta expression on C3H10T1/2 B2C1 adipocyte cells.

Bioactive compound substances from Grifola frondosa (maitake) inhibited adipocyte differentiation of B(2)C(1) preadipocytes. This compound is not related to MAP kinase (ERK1 and ERK2) cascades or beta-catenin, which inhibit the expression of Glut4, PPARgamma and C/EBPalpha. The compound reduced the expression time of C/EBPbeta and C/EBPdelta.
