Bone-eating (also known as osteophagia), found in wild animals, is primarily recognized as a means to supplement phosphorus and calcium intake. Herein, we describe a novel function of bone-eating in detoxifying heavy metal ions through the dissolution and co-precipitation of bone minerals as they travel through the gastrointestinal (GI) tract. In this study, cadmium (Cd), a heavy metal ion, served as a toxic model.

Background And Purpose: Eukaryotic elongation factor 2 kinase (eEF2K) belongs to the Ca/calmodulin-dependent protein kinase family. We previously revealed that A484954, a selective eEF2K inhibitor, caused hypotensive and diuretic effects via the production of nitric oxide (NO) in spontaneously hypertensive rats. Otsuka Long-Evans Tokushima Fatty (OLETF) rats are hypertensive because of obesity and type 2 diabetes.

Common wheat is allohexaploid, where it is difficult to obtain homoeolog-distinguished transcriptome data. Lasy-Seq, a type of 3' RNA-seq, is a technology efficient at obtaining homoeolog-distinguished transcriptomes. Here we applied Lasy-Seq to obtain transcriptome data from the seedlings, second leaves, and root tips of 25 common wheat lines mainly from East Asia.

Real-world safety and effectiveness of romosozumab following daily or weekly administration of teriparatide in primary and secondary osteoporosis.

Romosozumab is an anti-sclerostin antibody that increases bone formation and decreases bone resorption, and it became available for patients at high risk of osteoporotic fractures in Japan in 2019. The aim of this study was to clarify the clinical effects, safety, and predictors of the effectiveness of 12 months of romosozumab therapy following daily or weekly administration of teriparatide. The study had an observational pre-post design and included 171 female patients.
