Organ donation in Germany: opt-in vs. opt-out-opinions and voting patterns in the 19th German Bundestag.

In early 2024, 8,394 patients were waitlisted for solid organ transplantation in Germany. Long waiting times and declining donor numbers highlight the urgency for political measures to improve the organ donation system. This retrospective analysis examined the attitudes of the 19th German Bundestag members towards organ donation and their voting behavior on the opt-out system, which was decided on January 6, 2020.

The Co-design of the Dementia Lifestyle Intervention to get healthy together (DELIGHT) program: An authentic partnership approach.

Improving supports to enhance wellbeing of people living with dementia is a priority. Engaging people living with dementia, care partners, and other stakeholders in development of interventions increases the likelihood they will be relevant and impactful. We describe the participatory approach used to co-design the Dementia Lifestyle Intervention for Getting Healthy Together (DELIGHT) program, which aims to promote the health and wellbeing of people living with dementia and care partners.

Patient-reported outcomes in head and neck cancer: a cross-sectional analysis of quality of life domains across early and advanced UICC stages.

Background: Head and neck cancer (HNC) patients experience a variety of post-treatment symptoms that affect their quality of life (QoL). This study aims to assess the most prevalent symptoms and their relationship to cancer stage (UICC I-IV) while identifying areas for targeted intervention.

Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted involving 340 HNC patients at the University Hospital Erlangen from January to December 2019.

Shear flow patterns antimicrobial gradients across bacterial populations.

Bacterial populations experience chemical gradients in nature. However, most experimental systems either ignore gradients or fail to capture gradients in mechanically relevant contexts. Here, we use microfluidic experiments and biophysical simulations to explore how host-relevant shear flow affects antimicrobial gradients across communities of the highly resistant pathogen .

Ultrafast unidirectional spin Hall magnetoresistance driven by terahertz light field.

The ultrafast control of magnetisation states in magnetically ordered systems poses significant technological challenges yet is vital for the development of memory devices that operate at picosecond timescales or terahertz (THz) frequencies. Despite considerable efforts achieving convenient ultrafast readout of magnetic states remains an area of active investigation. For practical applications, energy-efficient and cost-effective electrical detection is highly desirable.
