Synthesis, Structure, and Properties of Unsaturated Thiacrown Ethers Possessing Sulfonium Groups.

Thiacrown ethers have attracted much attention in host-guest chemistry. Herein, we present the polymethylation reactions of unsaturated thiacrown ethers. Unsaturated thiacrown ethers having sulfonium groups were synthesized by the reaction of corresponding unsaturated thiacrown ethers with methyl triflate.

The effects of visual input on postural control mechanisms: an analysis of center-of-pressure trajectories using the auto-regressive model.

New measures to characterize center-of-pressure (COP) trajectories during quiet standing were proposed and then utilized to investigate changes in postural control with respect to visual input. Eleven healthy male subjects (aged 20-27 years) were included in this study. An instrumented force platform was used to measure the time-varying displacements of the COP under each subject's feet during quiet standing.

Cloning and expression of a marine bacterial beta-galactoside alpha2,6-sialyltransferase gene from Photobacterium damsela JT0160.

Sialyltransferase 0160, a bacterial sialyltransferase which catalyzes the incorporation of NeuAc from CMP-NeuAc into the galactose residue of the carbohydrate chain at position 6, is produced by Photobacterium damsela JT0160. The gene coding for sialyltransferase 0160 (bst) was cloned, sequenced, and expressed in Escherichia coli. The sialyltransferase 0160 gene contains an open reading frame of 2,028 base pairs encoding a protein of 675 amino acid residues.

Purification and characterization of a marine bacterial beta-galactoside alpha 2,6-sialyltransferase from Photobacterium damsela JT0160.

A bacterial sialyltransferase, named sialyltransferase 0160, was purified from a marine bacterium that had been isolated from seawater from Sagami Bay, Kanagawa. This strain has been identified as Photobacterium damsela, and named P. damsela JT0160.

Stereotactic fine needle aspiration of mammographic lesions.

Stereotactic fine needle aspiration biopsy (FNAB) is being offered at many centers across the United States in lieu of open surgical biopsy for nonpalpable mammographic lesions. To determine how accurate this procedure is in a community hospital, the authors performed stereotactic FNAB of 62 nonpalpable mammographic lesions using Siemens upright stereotactic equipment. FNAB was immediately followed by hook wire localization and open biopsy.
