Introduction: The purpose of this study was to classify 10 cone-beam computed tomographic (CBCT) devices using a ranking model according to the detection of fine endodontic structures.
Methods: A dedicated dentate anthropomorphic phantom was scanned 2 times using 10 CBCT devices without any metal (metal-free condition) and with an endodontically treated tooth containing a metallic post (metal condition). A reference image acquired on an industrial micro-CT scanner was used to register all CBCT images, yielding corresponding anatomic slices.

The cranial computer-assisted tomograms of 19 patients suffering from schizophrenic psychoses with onset by age of 14 were examined. The emphasis was on the extent of the inner liquor spaces. Compared to healthy controls, at the beginning of illness a significant enlargement was revealed only in the patient group with very early onset schizophrenia (VEOS, onset prior to the age of 12), whereas children with early onset (EOS, 12 to 14 years of age) showed no significant brain pathology.

CT remains the method of choice in inflammatory paranasal sinus disease and in craniofacial trauma, whereas MRI has become the preferred imaging technique in patients with sensorineural hearing loss.

MR was superior to myelography in 2 patients, in another 2 patients MRI was equally diagnostic. The cerebrospinal fluid of every patient contained malignant cells.
