Adaptation and validation of perceived HIV and TB stigma scales among persons with TB.

Stigma is a barrier to care for people affected by TB and HIV in Uganda, where these conditions remain endemic. While scales have been adapted and validated to measure stigma among TB-affected households in Uganda, there is a need for scales that measure the experiences of persons with TB (PWTB).We adapted the Van Rie 12-item individual perspectives TB scale and 10-item individual perspectives HIV scale for use in Uganda through cross-cultural discussions with a multidisciplinary research team and four cognitive interviews with community health workers and PWTB.

Contextual factors influencing bubble continuous positive airway pressure implementation for paediatric respiratory distress in low-income and middle-income countries: a realist review.

Background: Bubble continuous positive airway pressure (bCPAP) is a low-cost, non-invasive respiratory support therapy for children with respiratory distress, but its effectiveness is dependent on the context. We aimed to understand contextual factors influencing bCPAP implementation for children aged 1-59 months in low-income and middle-income countries (LMICs) and to develop a theory explaining how these factors influence implementation outcomes.

Methods: In this realist review, we generated an initial programme theory comprising candidate context-mechanism-outcome configurations (CMOCs) via review of key references and team discussion.

Pathways and identity: toward qualitative research careers in child and adolescent psychiatry.

Objective: Qualitative research methods are based on the analysis of words rather than numbers; they encourage self-reflection on the investigator's part; they are attuned to social interaction and nuance; and they incorporate their subjects' thoughts and feelings as primary sources. Despite appearing well suited for research in child and adolescent psychiatry (CAP), qualitative methods have had relatively minor uptake in the discipline. We conducted a qualitative study of CAPs involved in qualitative research to learn about these investigators' lived experiences, and to identify modifiable factors to promote qualitative methods within the field of youth mental health.
