Banks' credit risk, systematic determinants and specific factors: recent evidence from emerging markets.

Non-performing loans (NPLs, henceforth) represent the main challenge that jeopardizes the steadiness of the banking sector. The purpose of this study is to explore the main determinants of banks' non-performing loans in emerging markets. To better understand the hidden aspects of these determinants, the current research employs a panel approach and dynamic data estimates through Generalized Methods of Moments (GMM) using data of 53 banks listed in five Middle East and North African (MENA) emerging markets between 2000 and 2019.

Weaning from veno-arterial extra-corporeal membrane oxygenation: which strategy to use?

Refractory cardiogenic shock patients may be rescued by veno-arterial extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (VA ECMO). After a few days of mechanical assistance, the device can sometimes be successfully removed if the patient has partially or fully recovered from the condition that required the use of ECMO. The percentage of patients with refractory cardiogenic shock who are successfully weaned from ECMO varies from 31% to 76%.

A novel frameshift mutation (c.405delC) in the GJB2 gene associated with autosomal recessive hearing loss in two Tunisian families.

Objectives: Mutations in GJB2 are found to be responsible for 50% of congenital autosomal recessive non-syndromic hearing loss, one of the most important mutations in this gene is the c.35delG, which is responsible for the majority of GJB2 related deafness in the Tunisian population. The aim of this study was to determine the molecular etiology of hearing loss in two Tunisian individuals.
