Benefit of continuous positive airway pressure on work quality in patients with severe obstructive sleep apnea.

Background: The objective of this prospective study was to assess the effect of CPAP therapy on job productivity and work quality for patients with severe obstructive sleep apnea (OSA).

Methods: A convenience sample of patients diagnosed with severe OSA using polysomnography or polygraphy and with a therapeutic indication for CPAP was enrolled in our study. Patients completed two self-administered questionnaires: the first before CPAP therapy and the second during the first 6 months after CPAP treatment.

Five-year effects of nasal continuous positive airway pressure in obstructive sleep apnoea syndrome.

There have been very few studies assessing the long-term physiological effects of nasal continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) for the obstructive sleep apnoea syndrome. We therefore investigated prospectively the evolution of lung function, arterial blood gases and pulmonary haemodynamics in patients with this syndrome treated with CPAP. Sixty five patients were included.

[Acute poisoning by class I anti-arrhythmia agents and by chloroquine].

Poisonings with class I antiarrhythmic drugs and chloroquine are characterized by their severity, related to their membrane-stabilizing effect. Because of the rapid onset of severe cardiovascular disturbances with circulatory arrest, cardiogenic shock, conduction abnormalities, ventricular dysrhythmia, rapid hospitalisation in an intensive care unit is mandatory with continuous monitoring of electrocardiogram, blood pressure and biological variables. Treatment includes mechanical ventilation, inotropic agents, especially epinephrine, hypertonic sodium salts, and diazepam in case of chloroquine poisoning.

[A cause of respiratory distress: eosinophilic pneumopathy due to minocycline].

We report a case of eosinophilic pneumonia secondary to taking Tetracycline whose severity required the use of mechanical ventilation and steroid therapy. On the basis of this case, we review the characteristics of drug-induced pneumonia as well as the differential diagnosis which are evoked.
