Solubility and thermal stability of surfactants are the key properties to consider for their possible oilfield applications. Most commercially available surfactants experience hydrolysis under high temperatures, and prolonged heating exacerbates this process, creating significant challenges for the petroleum industry. To address these complications, a novel class of propylamine and pyridinium-based zwitterionic surfactants was prepared, and their structures were confirmed using nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) and Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR) spectroscopies.

HIV has markedly affected millions of people globally, with antiretroviral therapy (ART) transforming acquired immunodeficiency syndrome from a fatal disease to a manageable chronic condition. However, global disparities in ART access persist, particularly in low- and middle-income countries, highlighting the urgent need for affordable HIV vaccines. In this study, we investigated the potential development of a multi-epitope vaccine (MEV) targeting the HIV subtype CRF01_AE, which is prevalent in Indonesia.

Article Synopsis
  • The study focuses on how surfactants can improve oil recovery by reducing interfacial tension between crude oil and injected water, particularly under high-pressure and high-temperature (HPHT) conditions.
  • It found that as pressure increases and gas/oil ratios (GOR) rise, water solubilization in microemulsions increases significantly, while oil solubilization decreases.
  • The research established optimal salinity levels for different GORs, demonstrating that higher GOR values lead to lower optimal salinity and reduced microemulsion generation, which is crucial for enhancing oil recovery practices in the petroleum industry.
