Amino acid (AA)-diets do not have the same effects because AAs cannot bind to major histocompatibility complex to activate T cells. Here, we show that impairment in regulatory T cell generation and loss of tolerance in mice fed a diet lacking whole protein is associated with major transcriptional changes in intestinal DCs including downregulation of genes related to DC maturation, activation and decreased gene expression of immune checkpoint molecules.

We hypothesize that Bacteroides contributes to AD by modulating microglia. Here we show that administering Bacteroides fragilis to APP/PS1-21 mice increases Aβ plaques in females, modulates cortical amyloid processing gene expression, and down regulates phagocytosis and protein degradation microglial gene expression.

There are currently no approved disease-modifying therapies available for HD, with death usually occurring approximately 10-25 years after onset, but some therapies hold promising potential. HD subjects are often burdened by chronic diarrhea, constipation, esophageal and gastric inflammation, and a susceptibility to diabetes.
