Treatment of the adjuvant disease in rats by intragastric administration of voltaren or indomethacin (3 mg/kg) was followed by approximately equal anti-inflammatory and analgesic effects on the affected joints. In this case the development of active dystrophic changes in the gastrointestinal tract and kidneys was observed. At combined administration of the antiphlogistics with trental there was noted an enhancement of their therapeutic action on the joints and also a weakening of the ulcerogenic effect and nephrotoxicity that was reflected in the clinical, pathological, morphological and laboratory studies.

Influence of vitamin A deficiency on ATPase activity in erythrocytes was studied experimentally. It was shown that activity of Mg2+, Na+, K+-ATPase increased, while that of Na+, K+-ATPase decreased under such conditions. The assay of K+ and Na+ in erythrocytes and plasma revealed diminished K+ content in erythrocytes and its elevated level in plasma, Na+ concentration in erythrocytes rose.

Metabolism of erythrocyte membrane phospholipids was studied under conditions of distinct A-avitaminosis. Content of sphingomyelin, phosphatidyl serine, phosphatidyl ethanolamine was markedly decreased and of phosphatidyl choline--increased. Content of the phospholipids correlated with incorporation of 2-14C-acetic acid.

In spite of the fact that vitamin A exerts an obvious effect on cell membrane permeability, the specific mechanisms of vitamin A participation in stabilizing the cell membrane remain unclear. Therefore studies on the effect vitamin A produces on the main and reserve pathways of the synthesis of adenylnucleotides are of great importance. The experiments on Wistar rats showed that under vitamin A deficiency the content of ATP and ADP in red cells dramatically changed as compared to that in control animals.
