Objectives Previous studies have shown that residents play an important role in the education of medical students in the clinical setting, but the busy environment of the emergency department (ED) poses a challenge to the effective teaching of medical students by emergency medicine (EM) residents. To combat this, this study relies on just-in-time teaching, which refers to the application of teaching efforts specific to a particular moment, in this case, a clinical case or procedure. Building on studies showing that just-in-time teaching can improve education despite time constraints, as well as data showing that practitioners and trainees increasingly use apps for diagnosis and education, the objective of this project was to determine whether a free open-access medical education (FOAM) smartphone application (app) is feasible and improves the quality and frequency of resident teaching of medical students in the emergency department.

Androgen deprivation therapy, the mainstay of treatment for patients with advanced prostate cancer, can be either medical or surgical. Surgery has cost benefits compared to medical treatment. In this study, we evaluated the use of simple and epididymal-sparing orchiectomy in 2 different practice settings for the treatment of metastatic prostate cancer.

Purpose: Transition to residency (TTR) courses facilitate the medical student-residency transition and are an integral part of senior medical student training. The authors established a common set of skills for TTR courses, and an expected level of entrustment students should demonstrate in each skill on TTR course completion.

Method: A modified Delphi approach was used with 3 survey iterations between 2020 and 2022 to establish skills to be included in a TTR course.

Objective: To create a society position statement on common adjunct penile prosthesis (PP) procedures. While the Medicare Current Procedural Terminology code book lists descriptions of procedures, it is very brief and lacks detail in the small subspecialty of prosthetic urology. At educational/research meetings, wide variation was found in how experts in prosthetic urology code the same procedures, and need for a standardized format in billing common ancillary surgery was voiced.

Objectives: Practice-based learning and improvement (PBLI) is an ACGME (Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education) core competency.
