Current State and Outlook in Medical 3D Printing and the Role of Radiology.

Medical three-dimensional (3D) printing is playing an increasingly important role in clinical practice. The use of 3D printed models in patient care offers a wide range of possibilities in terms of personalized medicine, training and education of medical professionals, and communication with patients. DICOM files from imaging modalities such as CT and MRI provide the basis for the majority of the 3D models in medicine.

Lateral atrial septal defect closure with induced ventricular fibrillation versus cardioplegic arrest.

Unlabelled: Minimally invasive surgical closure of atrial septal defects is gaining widespread acceptance and can be performed via a right midaxillary thoracotomy. In addition, the procedure can be performed in ischaemic cardiac arrest or fibrillation with a core body temperature between 34°C and 36°C.

Objectives: We present our single-centre results of paediatric patients who underwent surgical atrial septal defect II closure via lateral thoracotomy.

Riverbed depth-specific microplastics distribution and potential use as process marker.

Riverbed sediments have been identified as temporary and long-term accumulation sites for microplastic particles (MPs), but the relocation and retention mechanisms in riverbeds still need to be better understood. In this study, we investigated the depth-specific occurrence and distribution (abundance, type, and size) of MPs in river sediments down to a depth of 100 cm, which had not been previously investigated in riverbeds. In four sediment freeze cores taken for the Main River (Germany), MPs (≥ 100 µm) were detected using two complementary analytical approaches (spectroscopy and thermoanalytical) over the entire depth with an average of 21.

Community Health Benefits Through a Student-Run Nonprofit Pediatric Wellness Clinic.

Purpose Community screening programs have been in effect since they were utilized in the 19th century at county fairs. A free pediatric health screening program was created by an osteopathic medical school in South Carolina in collaboration with a pediatric dental outreach organization to engage the local underserved community and train community-minded medical professionals. This study sought to demonstrate the efficacy and need for a student-run monthly pediatric health screening program in an underserved pediatric demographic.

Unique Presentation of Adult Ileocecal Intussusception Unveiling a Rare Culprit: A Carcinoid Tumor.

Intussusception is a prominent contributor to bowel obstruction, marked by the invagination of a proximal bowel section into a distal segment. Ileocecal intussusception occurs when a portion of the terminal ileum folds into the cecum. In adults, intussusception is infrequent compared to pediatric cases, and represents a minority of bowel obstructions.
