We study the dynamics of a discrete model with two different stages of the population, the pre-adult stage governed by a Beverton-Holt-type map and the adult stage by a [Formula: see text]-Ricker map. The composition of both maps gives the dynamics. The existence of the Allee effect is easily observed.

Article Synopsis
  • * A systematic review aimed to assess how nursing interventions can help prevent bacteremia associated with hemodialysis catheters, focusing on the rate of infection as the primary metric.
  • * Results showed that with effective nursing management, vigilance, and education, bacteremia rates significantly decreased, ranging from 0.2 to 5.47 events per 1000 catheter days.

Multiscale versions of weighted (and non-weighted) permutation entropy for two dimensions are considered in order to compare and analyze the results when different experiments are conducted. We propose the application of these measures to analyze encrypted images with different security levels and encryption methods.

Article Synopsis
  • The study focused on optimizing the potato-frying process to balance acrylamide production and yellowness, a quality parameter.
  • Analysis showed that most optimal solutions still resulted in acrylamide levels above EFSA recommendations.
  • Findings indicated that processing conditions, particularly lower temperatures and shorter times, can yield similar quality outcomes, and accounting for uncertainty in the model parameters significantly impacts the results.

In this paper, we simultaneously use two different scales in the analysis of ordinal patterns to measure the complexity of the dynamics of heartbeat time series. Rényi entropy and weighted Rényi entropy are the entropy-like measures proposed in the multiscale analysis in which, with the new scheme, four parameters are involved. First, the influence of the variation of the new parameters in the entropy values is analyzed when different groups of subjects (with cardiac diseases or healthy) are considered.
