Cancer Epidemiol Biomarkers Prev

Background: African American (AA) men are at increased risk of prostate cancer (PCa) compared to men of European ancestry (EA). Biological mechanisms, including epigenetics, likely contribute to this disparity, but prior studies have been limited by sample size, candidate gene approaches, or lack of epigenome-wide DNA methylation (DNAm) data.
Methods: To improve our understanding of these mechanisms, we compared DNAm features distinguishing tumor and paired histologically benign tissue from 76 AA and 75 EA PCa patients.
Background/objectives: Our previous study of 291 cancer patients, we showed that 20% did not respond to two doses of COVID-19 vaccine administered six weeks apart.
Methods: Here, we investigated if psychological factors (distress, anxiety, and depressive symptoms) affected antibody response and markers of vaccine activation (D-dimer) after 6 months from initial vaccination.
Results: Overall, 31 subjects (14.
Ionic Liquids (ILs) are currently applied in a wide variety of fields, with promising outcomes in microalgae high value biocompounds extraction. The occurrence of these compounds in natural water systems, with their characteristic stability and low biodegradability, becomes a threat worthy of attention. In the present study, Dunaliella tertiolecta, Isochrysis galbana and Rhinomonas reticulata were exposed to 1-butyl-3-methylimidazolium bis(trifluoromethylsulfonyl)imide ([BMIM] TfN) for 72, 168 and 264 h, at 20 and 25 °C.

The overall survival of patients with high-grade brain gliomas is 14-20 months after current multimodal therapy, including surgery, radiotherapy, and adjuvant chemotherapy.
Objective: To demonstrate in this experimental model that pharmacological blockade of group II metabotropic glutamate receptors reduces the incidence of brain tumors induced by prenatal exposure to N- ethyl-N-nitrosourea (ENU) in rats.
Mountain permafrost, constituting 30% of the global permafrost area, is sensitive to climate change and strongly impacts mountain ecosystems and communities. This study examines 21st century permafrost warming in European mountains using decadal ground temperature data from sixty-four boreholes in the Alps, Scandinavia, Iceland, Sierra Nevada and Svalbard. During 2013-2022, warming rates at 10 metres depth exceed 1 °C dec in cases, generally surpassing previous estimates because of accelerated warming and the use of a comprehensive data set.
