Background: If used properly, contact lenses (CLs) provide a safe and effective alternative to eyeglasses for refractive error correction. However, often due to patient noncompliance, CL-related complications may occur, such as discomfort, dry eye, as well as serious conditions like infectious keratitis. Our study aimed to assess the perceived knowledge and behavior of CL wearers in Switzerland regarding the handling of CLs and associated ocular health risks.

Acetylcholine and the cholinergic system are crucial to brain function, including functions such as consciousness and cognition. Dysregulation of this system is implicated in the pathophysiology of neurological conditions such as Alzheimer's disease. For this reason, cholinergic neuromodulation is relevant in both basic neuroscience and clinical neurology.

Mechanical stimulation, including wind exposure, is a common environmental factor for plants and can significantly impact plant phenotype, development, and growth. Most responses to external mechanical stimulation are defined by the term thigmomorphogenesis. While these morphogenetic changes in growth and development may not be immediately apparent, their end-results can be substantial.

Hypoxia, a hallmark of many solid tumors, is linked to increased cancer aggressiveness, metastasis, and resistance to conventional therapies, leading to poor patient outcomes. This challenges the efficiency of photodynamic therapy (PDT), which relies on the generation of cytotoxic reactive oxygen species (ROS) through the irradiation of a photosensitizer (PS), a process partially dependent on oxygen levels. In this work, we introduce a novel family of potent PSs based on ruthenium(II) polypyridyl complexes with 2,2'-bipyridyl ligands derived from COUPY coumarins, termed COUBPYs.

Introduction: To analyze our outcome for patients with neovascular age-related macular degeneration (nAMD) treated with aflibercept in a treat-and-extend regimen pursuing an exit strategy (with best possible adherence to the "Bern" exit criteria) over 6 years in a real-world setting. The primary objective of the study was to investigate the proportion of patients who were able to achieve and maintain treatment exit.

Methods: This is a retrospective chart review study of treatment-naïve patients diagnosed with nAMD receiving intravitreal aflibercept injections performed at our department with at least 2 years of follow-up visits.
