A 64-year-old male underwent elective gastrojejunostomy surgery after fasting properly but developed aspiration pneumonia during anesthesia induction when he vomited.
Despite this complication, the surgery was completed without issues, and he needed respiratory support but was extubated by day 2.
The case highlights that while standard fasting typically helps prevent aspiration, assessing gastric contents with ultrasound may be beneficial in certain cases to avoid complications.
