Introduction: Rescue intracranial stenting is necessary to provide sufficient recanalization after mechanical thrombectomy (MT) in patients with acute large vessel occlusions (LVO) due to an underlying intracranial atherosclerotic disease (ICAD). The CREDO heal is a novel stent that provides a potentially lower thrombogenicity due to surface modification. We present the first multicentric experience with the CREDO heal for acute rescue stenting.

Article Synopsis
  • A study was conducted to compare the safety and effectiveness of endovascular treatment (EVT) versus best medical management (BMM) for patients with acute ischaemic stroke caused by distal medium vessel occlusion (DMVO).
  • The analysis involved 2,125 patients, showing no significant difference in achieving functional independence at 90 days between EVT and BMM, despite EVT being associated with higher rates of hemorrhagic complications.
  • The results suggest that EVT does not provide better functional outcomes than BMM in DMVO cases while increasing the risk of bleeding, indicating the need for cautious use of EVT and further research to improve treatment approaches.

Background And Purpose: Stent-retriever devices play an increasing role in the interventional treatment of acute stroke patients, because fast recanalization can be achieved. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the feasibility of stent-retriever recanalization in patients with wake-up stroke in the anterior circulation.

Materials And Methods: We retrospectively analyzed clinical and angiographic data of 19 consecutive patients with wake-up stroke who were treated with stent-retriever devices between 2009 and October 2011.
