Objective: This study aims to evaluate the role of elevated lipoprotein (a) [Lp(a)] levels as a potential contributor to residual risk in individuals with atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (ASCVD). Considering that approximately 90% of Lp(a) levels are genetically determined and can vary regionally, we assessed Lp(a) levels in a cohort of ASCVD patients from the Turkish population, where data is currently limited.

Methods: We conducted a retrospective analysis of data and Lp(a) measurements collected from individuals diagnosed with ASCVD at a single center.

Objectives: We observed significant contractions in the cricothyroid muscle (CTM) after recurrent laryngeal nerve (RLN) stimulation in some patients. We aimed to evaluate whether these contractions resulted from the laryngeal-muscle movement due to the contraction of other intrinsic muscles or actual CTM contraction, with objective real-time intraoperative electromyography (EMG) recordings.

Methods: This study was performed prospectively in 106 consecutive patients who underwent intraoperative neural monitoring-guided primary thyroid surgery due to various thyroid diseases between February-2015 and February-2016.

Perioperative chemotherapy provides advantage for gastric cancer patients in terms of survival. A 56-year male with a diagnosis of locally advanced gastric carcinoma presented with complaints of acute abdominal pain; and was diagnosed as gastric tumor perforation during neoadjuvant therapy. Gastric perforation may occur during neoadjuvant chemotherapy for gastric cancer.
