Amyloid Aggregates Are Localized to the Nonadherent Detached Fraction of Aging Streptococcus mutans Biofilms.

The number of bacterial species recognized to utilize purposeful amyloid aggregation within biofilms continues to grow. The oral pathogen Streptococcus mutans produces several amyloidogenic proteins, including adhesins P1 (also known as AgI/II, PAc) and WapA, whose truncation products, namely, AgII and AgA, respectively, represent the amyloidogenic moieties. Amyloids demonstrate common biophysical properties, including recognition by Thioflavin T (ThT) and Congo red (CR) dyes that bind to the cross β-sheet quaternary structure of amyloid aggregates.

Patient and clinician experience with a rapidly implemented large-scale video consultation program during COVID-19.

Background: The coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic has forced health-care providers to find creative ways to allow continuity of care in times of lockdown. Telemedicine enables provision of care when in-person visits are not possible. Sheba Medical Center made a rapid transition of outpatient clinics to video consultations (VC) during the first wave of COVID-19 in Israel.

Prevention of perioperative venous thromboembolism and coronary events: differential responsiveness to an intervention program to improve guidelines adherence.

Introduction: Prevention of venous thromboembolism and coronary events (with beta-blockers) during and after surgery is at the top of a list of safety practices for hospitalized patients, recommended by the Agency for Health Care Research and Quality (AHRQ). We wished to determine and improve adherence to clinical guidelines for these topics in our institution. PATIENTS, MATERIAL, AND METHODS: A prospective survey was conducted over several weeks on operated patients in a 1200-beds medical center (a teaching, community and referral hospital in Jerusalem, Israel).

Poor prenatal detection rate of cardiac anomalies in Noonan syndrome.

Background: The wide variation and nonspecific nature of many of the associated ultrasonographic findings complicate prenatal diagnosis of Noonan syndrome. The aim of the present study was to define the rate of prenatal diagnosis of heart malformations in cases diagnosed postnatally with Noonan syndrome.

Methods: English-language literature review of 29 cases of Noonan syndrome examined prenatally with confirmed postnatal diagnosis and four case reports from our center.

Fetal ventricular tachycardia associated with nonimmunologic hydrops fetalis. A case report.

A very rare case occurred of fetal ventricular tachycardia associated with nonimmunologic hydrops fetalis and diagnosed on echocardiography. Attempted cardioversion with quinidine was unsuccessful.
