Association of Posttransplant Circulating 25-Hydroxyvitamin D and Late-Onset Infections Among Kidney Transplant Recipients: The Wisconsin Allograft Recipient Database (WisARD).

Introduction: Late-onset infection occurring more than 6 months after transplantation is a major threat to the long-term survival of kidney transplant recipients (KTRs). Accumulating evidence indicates a potential role for vitamin D in host resistance to infections. While vitamin D inadequacy is common among KTRs, the association of posttransplant circulating 25-hydroxyvitamin D [25(OH)D] and late-onset infection remains uncertain.

Mitochondria are key regulators of metabolism and ATP supply in skeletal muscle, while circadian rhythms influence many physiological processes. However, whether mitochondrial function is intrinsically regulated in a circadian manner in mouse skeletal muscle is inadequately understood. Accordingly, we measured post-absorptive transcript abundance of markers of mitochondrial biogenesis, dynamics, and metabolism (extensor digitorum longus [EDL], soleus, gastrocnemius), protein abundance of electron transport chain complexes (EDL and soleus), enzymatic activity of SDH (tibialis anterior and plantaris), and maximum uncoupled respiration (tibialis anterior) in different skeletal muscles from female C57BL/6NJ mice at four zeitgeber times (ZT), ZT 1, 7, 13, and 19.

A binary system in the S cluster close to the supermassive black hole Sagittarius A.

High-velocity stars and peculiar G objects orbit the central supermassive black hole (SMBH) Sagittarius A* (Sgr A*). Together, the G objects and high-velocity stars constitute the S cluster. In contrast with theoretical predictions, no binary system near Sgr A* has been identified.
