Parosteal lipoma is a rare benign soft tissue mesenchymal tumour that may impair limb motor function when located adjacent to neurovascular structures. We report a case of a woman in her 80s with a long-standing lesion in the forearm and consequent sensory and motor function changes. She was admitted for an elective excision of the lipoma.

Stress responses are essential for survival, but become detrimental to health and cognition with chronic activation. Chronic hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal axis release of glucocorticoids induces hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal axis dysfunction and neuronal loss, decreases learning and memory, and modifies glucocorticoid receptor/mineralocorticoid receptor expression. Elderly who report increased stress are nearly 3 times more likely to develop Alzheimer's disease, have decreased global cognition and faster cognitive decline than those reporting no stress.

The cusps of native aortic valve (AV) are composed of collagen bundles embedded in soft tissue, creating a heterogenic tissue with asymmetric alignment in each cusp. This study compares native collagen fiber networks (CFNs) with a goal to better understand their influence on stress distribution and valve kinematics. Images of CFNs from five porcine tricuspid AVs are analyzed and fluid-structure interaction models are generated based on them.

Calcific aortic valve disease (CAVD) is a progressive pathology characterized by calcification mainly within the cusps of the aortic valve (AV). As CAVD advances, the blood flow and associated hemodynamics are severely altered, thus influencing the mechanical performance of the AV. This study proposes a new method, termed reverse calcification technique (RCT) capable of re-creating the different calcification growth stages.
