Between 1985 and 1989, eight children underwent two successive bone marrow transplantations. The initial disease was chronic myelomonocytic leukemia in three patients, chronic myelocytic leukemia in two, acute M7 nonlymphoblastic leukemia in one, sickle cell anemia in one, and thalassemia major in one. The preparation in view of the second grafting included high-dose chemotherapy in all patients, associated with antithymocytic globulin transfusion and total nodal irradiation in three patients.

Six children with leishmaniasis, aged 10 months to 10 years, were treated in the Paediatric Department. Four patients had visceral leishmaniasis (kala-azar): diagnosis was based on bone marrow examination and therapy consisted of a combination of Glucantime and Lomidine. The remaining two children had cutaneous leishmaniasis: diagnosis was made by skin biopsy and the patients were treated with Glucantime alone.

Juvenile laryngeal papillomatosis is a rare and benign tumoral disease of childhood characterized by numerous relapses despite complete resection. The ENT treatment of choice is to vaporize the papillomas with a CO2 laser. Since the discovery of a viral etiology (Human Papilloma Virus), resection has been followed by medical attempts to control the disease by using various antiviral treatments.

The supposed nephrotoxicity of netilmicin has been assessed in preterm neonates using the urinary excretion of a lysosomal enzyme as marker: N-acetyl-beta-D-glucosaminidase (NAG). 17 male preterm neonates with birth weight appropriate for gestational age were enrolled in a study where 9 received netilmicin therapy since the first day of life and 8 served as control group. We observed a significant increase in urinary NAG/creatinine ratio during the postnatal days in the netilmicin group babies followed by a regular decrease during the days after the end of therapy.
