Early cortical atrophy in REM sleep behavior disorder.

Introduction: The presence of cortical atrophy (focal or diffuse) prior to the development of symptoms of cognitive impairment could predict the earliest cases of neurodegenerative disease in patients with REM sleep behavior disorder (RSBD). We reviewed the usefulness of cranial CT and MRI as early markers of cortical atrophy in patients with RSBD at our center.

Patients And Methods: Retrospective observational descriptive analysis of patients diagnosed with RSBD from October 2012 to October 2022.

Introduction: Parkinson's Disease (PD) is a progressive age-related neurodegenerative condition requiring new therapeutic alternatives. Safinamide, a novel levodopa add-on therapy, positively affects disease fluctuations by modulating both dopaminergic and glutamatergic systems. To further investigate the use of safinamide in European routine clinical practice, the present post-hoc analysis aimed to understand safinamide's safety profile within the Spanish study population.

[Opicapone for the treatment of Parkinson's disease: real-life data in Spain].

Opicapone is a catechol-O-methyl-transferase (iCOMT) inhibitor authorized in Europe in 2016 and indicated as adjunctive therapy to preparations of levodopa/ DOPA decarboxylase inhibitors in adult patients with Parkinson's disease and end-of-dose motor fluctuations who cannot be stabilised on those combinations. The efficacy of opicapone in these patients has been demonstrated in two pivotal randomized clinical trials, BIPARK I and BIPARK II, in which it has demonstrated its superiority versus placebo and non-inferiority versus entacapone. Although they constitute the gold standard for the evaluation of interventions, randomized clinical trials present limitations of external validity due to the use of strict eligibility criteria.

Conditions associated with REM sleep behaviour disorder: Description of a hospital series.

Introduction: REM sleep behaviour disorder (RBD) is characterised by violent behaviours (screaming, kicking, vivid dreams) during REM sleep. It has a prevalence of 1% to 2% of the general population and is especially frequent in men and the population older than 60. In the last decade, RBD has been suggested to be a prodrome of neurodegenerative disease.
