[Long term follow up of patients consulting in a Chest Pain Unit].

Background: chest pain (CT) constitutes an important cause of consultation and diagnostic dilemma in the emergency room, especially due to the possible presence of coronary disease. Its presentation, diagnosis and prognosis are different between men and women.

Aim: to report a follow-up of patients attended at a Chest Pain Unit (CPU), evaluating gender differences.

[Community-acquired pneumonia in hospitalized adult patients. Clinical presentation and prognostic factors].

Background: Community-acquired pneumonia (CAP) is a serious health problem in Chile.

Aim: To study prognostic factors on admission and outcome of CAP, in immune competent adult patients, hospitalized in the Catholic University Clinical Hospital.

Patients And Methods: All adult patients admitted with a CAP in a period of 2 years were prospectively studied.

Glycoprotein Ib/IX complex is the target in rifampicin-induced immune thrombocytopenia.

Thrombocytopenia is a major adverse effect of several drug treatments. Rifampicin has been recognized as a cause of immune thrombocytopenia during intermittent high-dose therapy. We characterized the antibody of a patient who presented with purpura and thrombocytopenia during treatment of tuberculosis with rifampicin.

[Idiopathic recurrent ventricular tachycardia: role of verapamil in its treatment].

Verapamil is a calcium channel blocker ideally suited for the treatment of A-V nodal reciprocating supraventricular tachycardia. Most types of ventricular tachycardia are refractory to treatment with verapamil since they depend on sodium channels. However, a few cases of recurrent ventricular tachycardia are refractory to Type I antiarrhythmic agents and may respond to verapamil.
