Varicella presents a public health challenge in Guatemala, with limited evidence regarding its impact; vaccine is currently absent from the national immunization program. Generating local data on the economic and health burden can support immunization policies. This study describes the use of hospital resources, costs of care, clinical and demographic characteristics, and complications in children with varicella.

Introduction: Latin America accounts for one-quarter of global COVID-19 cases and one-third of deaths. Inequalities in the region lead to barriers to the best use of diagnostic tests during the pandemic.  The novel coronavirus disease 2019 pandemic has rapidly spread worldwide, challenging healthcare resources and communities to an unprecedent degree. Simultaneously, the amount of clinical and scientific information released has overwhelmed journal platforms.  This review aims to summarize the available diagnostic tools and current guidelines to safely assist patients while limiting the exposure of otolaryngologists during this pandemic.

A retrospective analysis of data from patients receiving daptomycin as outpatient parenteral antimicrobial therapy (OPAT) within the European Cubicin Outcomes Registry and Experience (EU-CORE(SM)) was performed. Of 4592 enrolled patients in 15 countries, 550 (12%) received daptomycin OPAT. Of these, 149 (27%) received daptomycin without hospital admission, 84% had significant underlying diseases and 44% were ≥65 years of age.
