Previous research highlighted the involvement of the cannabinoid CB1 receptor in regulating the physiology of hepatocytes and hepatic stellate cells. The inhibition of the CB1 receptor via peripherally restricted CB1 receptor inverse agonist JD5037 has shown promise in inhibiting liver fibrosis in mice treated with CCl4. However, its efficacy in phospholipid transporter-deficiency-induced liver fibrosis remains uncertain.

Plant protein phosphatase 2C (PP2C) plays vital roles in responding to various stresses, stimulating growth factors, phytohormones, and metabolic activities in many important plant species. However, the PP2C gene family has not been investigated in the economically valuable plant species sunflower (Helianthus annuus L.).

At present, the roles of PDCD4 in the activation and profibrogenic properties of myofibroblasts, which are critically involved in organ fibrosis, such as that in the liver, are unclear. We, therefore, investigated the roles of PDCD4 in myofibroblasts using human hepatic stellate cell line Lieming Xu-2 (LX-2).

Aging is an important stage of the human life cycle and the primary risk factor for Neurodegenerative Diseases (ND). The aging process contributes to modifications in cells, which may lead to a lack of nutrient signaling, disrupted cellular activity, increased oxidative pressure, cell homeostasis depletion, genomic instability, misfolded protein aggregation, impaired cellular protection, and telomere reduction. The neuropathologies found in Alzheimer's Disease (AD) and Parkinson's Disease (PD) are internally and extrinsically compound environmental stressors which may be partially alleviated by using different phytochemicals.
