[The geriatrics post-emergency and orientation unit].

The specific aims of a geriatrics post-emergency and orientation unit (UPUOG) are to provide early and global management of the patients, to preserve their autonomy and to anticipate the care and life project. This article presents the example of the University hospital of Nancy.

[Post-emergency care in geriatrics and the promotion of short hospital stays].

With the aim of limiting hospitalisation and a possible loss of autonomy, the paramedical team of the post-emergency and geriatric orientation unit at Nancy general hospital endeavours to anticipate the life programme as soon as the elderly patient arrives. A daily review and close collaboration with the social worker are key elements in the care.

The culture of human skin fibroblasts on microcarriers in the presence of serum substitute: Ultroser G.

The effects of the substitution of serum by Ultroser G on human skin fibroblasts cultured on microcarriers were analysed. Cultures could not be established on microcarriers in the presence of Ultroser G. However, microcarrier cultures started in the presence of 10% foetal calf serum, and transferred to 2% Ultroser G after 7 days resulted in high cell densities.

Culture of galactosaemic fibroblasts in the presence of galactose: effect of inosine.

Fibroblasts from three galactosaemics had no galactose-1-phosphate uridyltransferase (GALT) activity. These fibroblasts cells were cultured in different media supplemented with dialysed fetal calf serum. Galactosaemic and control cell strains stopped growing in hexose-free medium.
