To clarify the role of socioeconomic status (SES) in cardiovascular and cancer mortality disparities observed between Black, Hispanic, and Asian compared to White adults, we conducted a meta-analysis of the longitudinal research in the USA. A PubMed, Ovid Medline, Web of Science, and EBSCO search was performed from January 1995 to May 2023. Two authors independently screened the studies and conducted risk assessments, with conflicts resolved via consensus.

Aim: This study aimed to compare the elemental composition of traditional and flavored hookah tobacco, with a focus on heavy metals.

Methods: We used inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (ICP-MS) to analyze the concentrations of 29 elements in the raw tobacco, tobacco ash, hookah water after smoking, and tobacco smoke.

Results: The results showed that the traditional tobacco had significantly higher metal concentrations than the flavored tobacco in all samples.

Very low calorie diets (VLCDs) induce rapid weight loss through severe energy restriction resulting in ketosis. VLCD manufacturer guidelines list acute kidney injury (AKI) as a contraindication for use with concerns around further damage to kidney function through increased protein catabolic load, diuresis, and risk of electrolyte derangements. We report on the successful concurrent management of AKI alongside provision of a VLCD for weight loss in the acute setting in a patient with class III obesity and comorbid complications during a prolonged hospital stay.

This study examined the removal of Pb(II) using magnetic chitosan hydrogel adsorbent from diverse sample waters. Spectrometry was used to track the effects of magnetic acrylamide nanocomposite dose, pH extraction, and contact duration on Pb(II) removal from sample water. This research also looked at adsorption isotherm models for the sorption of Pb(II).

In this project, we have synthesized and used a molecular imprinted polymer (MIP) for adsorption of oxycodone residue from the biological samples. Indeed, this study aims to develop a suitable method for determination of oxycodone drug residue in the human plasma using the common analysis methods. Therefore, the MIP was used for the solid phase extraction (MIP-SPE) approach in order to collect the oxycodone opioid and to concentrate it in the blood plasma samples.
