Gene Expression Profiles in Two Razor Clam Populations: Discerning Drivers of Population Status.

With rapidly changing marine ecosystems, shifts in abundance and distribution are being documented for a variety of intertidal species. We examined two adjacent populations of Pacific razor clams () in lower Cook Inlet, Alaska. One population (east) supported a sport and personal use fishery, but this has been closed since 2015 due to declines in abundance, and the second population (west) continues to support commercial and sport fisheries.

Total hip replacement in sickle cell disease.

We report on 35 total hip replacement arthroplasties in 28 patients with avascular necrosis of the femoral head secondary to sickle cell disease (SCD). There were 15 men and 13 women with a mean age of 27.5 years.

The value of ultrasound and aspiration in differentiating vaso-occlusive crisis and osteomyelitis in sickle cell disease patients.

We have studied 50 patients with sickle cell disease who presented with musculoskeletal pain over a 2-year period to assess the use of ultrasound in differentiating infection from infarction. All the patients were evaluated by ultrasound. Five had soft tissue oedema and no fluid collection adjacent to the bone.

The value of plain film findings in hydatid disease of bone.

The radiographic features of hydatid disease of bone have been reviewed in 16 Kuwaiti patients. The majority of the lesions were in the lower limb or pelvis, and the commonest presentation was with a pathological fracture. The radiological signs seen most often were lucent lesions in the bone, associated with expansion of the bone and thinning of the cortex.
