Background: Chronic hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection is a major risk for development of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), a frequent malignancy with a poor survival rate. HBV infection results in significant endoplasmic reticulum (ER) stress and activation of the unfolded protein response (UPR) signaling, a contributing factor to carcinogenesis. As part of the UPR, the ER-associated degradation (ERAD) pathway is responsible for removing the burden of misfolded secretory proteins, to re-establish cellular homeostasis.

Article Synopsis
  • Extracorporeal photopheresis (ECP) is a second-line treatment for patients with steroid-refractory GVHD, and this study evaluates its effectiveness in both pediatric and adult patients using real-world data from 30 cases.
  • The study found that ECP resulted in a 60% overall response rate for acute GVHD and 70% for chronic GVHD, with notable improvements in skin symptoms and reductions in corticosteroid use, and no complications were observed over the treatment period.

Recommender systems are decision support systems that help users to identify items of relevance from a potentially large set of alternatives. In contrast to the mainstream recommendation approaches of collaborative filtering and content-based filtering, knowledge-based recommenders exploit semantic user preference knowledge, item knowledge, and recommendation knowledge, to identify user-relevant items which is of specific relevance when dealing with complex and high-involvement items. Such recommenders are primarily applied in scenarios where users specify (and revise) their preferences, and related recommendations are determined on the basis of constraints or attribute-level similarity metrics.

During the coronavirus diseases 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic, the safety and efficacy of vaccination during pregnancy, particularly regarding the risk of preterm birth, have been a subject of concern. This systematic review aims to evaluate the impact of COVID-19 vaccination on preterm birth risk and to inform clinical practice and public health policies. Following PRISMA (Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses) guidelines, a database search included PubMed, Embase, and Scopus, conducted up until October 2023.

Post liver transplantation (LT) fibrosis has a negative impact on graft function. Cytokine production in the host immune response after LT may contribute to the variable CYP3A-dependent immunosuppressive drug disposition, with subsequent impact on liver fibrogenesis, together with host-related factors. We aimed to investigate whether the cytochrome P4503A5*3 (CYP3A5*3) or TBX21 genotypes impact post-LT liver fibrogenesis.
