Background: Biannual instrument-correlation studies are required for nonwaived assays performed on multiple instruments.

Objective: To determine the feasibility of using College of American Pathologists (CAP) Quality Cross Check-Chemistry and Therapeutic Drug Monitoring (CZQ) to assess instrument correlations among multiple analyzers, analyzer models, and Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA) licenses for 55 unique analytes.

Methods: Instrument correlation studies were performed on 9 Abbott ARCHITECT instruments (c4000 [n = 4], c8000 [n = 2], and c16000 [n = 3]) over 3 CLIA licenses using CZQ materials.

Article Synopsis
  • CART neuropeptide influences behavior, pain sensitivity, and acts as an antioxidant, with links to cancer development through its receptor GPR160.
  • A systematic review analyzed 19 studies showing CART expression in various cancers, including breast cancer and neuroendocrine tumors, suggesting its potential as a biomarker.
  • CART functions as an oncogene in cancer cell lines, enhancing survival and resistance to treatments, highlighting its importance in understanding cancer pathogenesis and potential therapies.

Targeting germline (gl-) precursors of broadly neutralizing antibodies (bNAbs) is acknowledged as an important strategy for HIV-1 vaccines. The VRC01-class of bNAbs is attractive because of its distinct genetic signature. However, VRC01-class bNAbs often require extensive somatic hypermutation, including rare insertions and deletions.

Background: Aldosterone synthase controls the synthesis of aldosterone and has been a pharmacologic target for the treatment of hypertension for several decades. Selective inhibition of aldosterone synthase is essential but difficult to achieve because cortisol synthesis is catalyzed by another enzyme that shares 93% sequence similarity with aldosterone synthase. In preclinical and phase 1 studies, baxdrostat had 100:1 selectivity for enzyme inhibition, and baxdrostat at several dose levels reduced plasma aldosterone levels but not cortisol levels.

The treatment of neoplastic spine metastases requires multi-faceted assessment and an interdisciplinary approach to patients. The metastases do not show specific symptoms but are often the first confirmation of the presence of a primary tumor in a patient. The diagnostic process includes imaging and invasive procedures, e.
