We identify a population of Protogenin-positive (PRTG) MYC NESTIN stem cells in the four-week-old human embryonic hindbrain that subsequently localizes to the ventricular zone of the rhombic lip (RL). Oncogenic transformation of early Prtg rhombic lip stem cells initiates group 3 medulloblastoma (Gr3-MB)-like tumors. PRTG stem cells grow adjacent to a human-specific interposed vascular plexus in the RL, a phenotype that is recapitulated in Gr3-MB but not in other types of medulloblastoma.

Polymicrobial BAs (PBAs) are complex coinfections of bacteria or bacterial and nonbacterial pathogens such as fungi or parasites, with diagnostic and therapeutic challenges. In this article, we comprehensively review the prevalence, pathogenesis, clinical manifestations, and microbiological, histopathological, and radiological features of PBAs, as well as treatment and prognosis.

It has been traditionally thought that gross-total resection was required for long-term survival, and small residuals were classically resected in a subsequent operation.
Methods: The authors analyzed their pediatric low-grade glioma (PLGG) database for cases treated between 1985 and 2020 and filtered for intracranial PAs, to determine what clinical or radiological factors precipitated revisional resective surgery in their single quaternary care center cohort.
Introduction: Operative cancellations adversely affect patient health and impose resource strain on the healthcare system. Here, our objective was to describe neurosurgical cancellations at five Canadian academic institutions.
Methods: The Canadian Neurosurgery Research Collaborative performed a retrospective cohort study capturing neurosurgical procedure cancellation data at five Canadian academic centres, during the period between January 1, 2014 and December 31, 2018.
Background And Objectives: Anterior basal encephaloceles are considered a rare entity and are often associated with midline cerebral abnormalities. Those with a large skull base defect and herniation of brain parenchyma in the neonate or young infant present unique challenges for surgical management.
Methods: We analyzed the neurosurgical administrative and operative databases between 1986 and 2022 to determine clinical presentation, operative approach, and outcome of basal encephaloceles.
