Plasma cell myeloma (PCM) is defined as a clonal disease of terminally differentiated plasma cells that secrete immunoglobulin. The biologic underpinnings of IgA-type multiple myeloma's (IgAMM) aggressive nature, including its increased morbidity and mortality, have not been elucidated. Irisin is generated from a membrane-bound precursor protein fibronectin type III domain-containing protein 5 (FNDC5). Aside from being highly expressed in muscle, FNDC5 is highly expressed in the brain.
