Burns are commonly encountered in the battlefield environment; however, the availability of burn expertise and specialized supplies is variable. Initial burn care should remain focused on cooling the burn, preventing hypothermia, basic wound cleansing, and evacuation. Key ongoing burn wound management principles include wound debridement, accurate burn size and depth estimation, wound care, ongoing wound evaluation, and treatment of suspected Gram-negative wound infection.

Objective: This quality improvement initiative aimed to standardize the diagnosis of necrotizing enterocolitis (NEC) in infants with congenital heart disease (CHD).

Study Design: A multidisciplinary team developed clinical practice guidelines for the diagnosis and treatment of NEC within the Cardiac Intensive Care Unit (CICU). The diagnosis rate of NEC per 100 at-risk admissions was the primary outcome measure.

Cucurbit yellow vine disease (CYVD), which is caused by the gram-negative bacterium and transmitted by squash bugs ( DeGeer), is a devastating disease of cucurbit crops that is emerging rapidly in the eastern half of the U.S. The lack of a robust pathogenicity assay for CYVD in the laboratory has hampered functional tests using genomic sequences to investigate the biology of this phytopathogen.

Lymphocyte activation gene 3 (Lag3) is an inhibitory co-receptor expressed on activated T cells and has been proposed to regulate regulatory T (Treg) cell function. However, its precise modality and mechanisms remain elusive. We generated Treg cell-specific Lag3-mutant mouse models and found that Lag3 was essential for Treg cell control of autoimmunity.
