[Recommendations on interpretive strategies for routine lung function tests].

During the annual conference of the German Respiratory Society (DGP = Deutsche Gesellschaft für Pneumologie und Beatmungsmedizin) in 2024, updated recommendations for lung function testing have been published. The original full-length version can be downloaded free of charge as pfd-paper from the journal entitled "Atemwegs- und Lungenkrankheiten, Jahrgang 50 (2024) März (111-184)". In the current recommendations new approaches have been embedded that focus on modern interpretations of lung function results, as has been proposed by the ERS (European Respiratory Society) in collaboration with the ATS (American Thoracic Society).

Apolipoprotein B-48 and late graft failure in kidney transplant recipients.

Introduction: Transplant vasculopathy resembles atherosclerotic plaque formation and is a major contributor to late graft failure in kidney transplant recipients (KTR). Remnant lipoproteins and associated triglycerides are causal risk factors for atherosclerotic plaques and have been implicated in late kidney graft failure. However, whether remnants derived from liver (containing apolipoprotein [apo] B100) or intestine (containing apoB48) are clinically more important is unclear.

5/6 Nephrectomy impairs acute kaliuretic responses and predisposes to postprandial hyperkalemia.

The susceptibility of patients with chronic kidney disease to develop postprandial hyperkalemia suggests alterations in normal kidney sodium (Na) and potassium (K) handling, but the exact nature of these changes is largely unknown. To address this, we analyzed the natriuretic and kaliuretic responses to diuretics and acute K loading in rats who underwent 5/6 nephrectomy (5/6Nx) and compared this with the response in sham-operated rats. The natriuretic and kaliuretic responses to furosemide, hydrochlorothiazide, and amiloride were largely similar between 5/6Nx and sham rats except for a significantly reduced kaliuretic response to hydrochlorothiazide in 5/6Nx rats.
