Protein-protein interactions in the cell membrane are typically mediated by glycans, with terminal sialic acid often involved in these interactions. To probe the nature of the interactions, we developed quantitative cross-linking methods involving the glycans of the glycoproteins and the polypeptide moieties of proteins. We designed and synthesized biotinylated enrichable cross-linkers that were click-tagged to metabolically incorporate azido-sialic acid on cell surface glycans to allow cross-linking of the azido-glycans with lysine residues on proximal polypeptides.

Aim: To enhance the understanding of COVID-19 regional lung damage pattern by analyzing the organ in subregions, beyond the typical lobe segmentation.

Materials And Methods: This study used semiautomatic computed tomography (CT) imaging segmentation and quantification to investigate regional lung impairments in patients with COVID-19. Each lung was divided into 12 regions, and the anatomical impairments obtained from the CT image (emphysema, ground glass opacity, and collapsed tissue) were quantified.

This paper reports the design of a biosensor for sensitive, low-cost measurement of lead in drinking water. The biosensor uses a genetically-modified strain of Escherichia coli, which serves as both signal amplifier and reporter of lead in water, measured via colour change. We developed the PlomBOX measurement platform to image this colour change and we demonstrate its capability to detect concentrations as low as the World Health Organisation upper limit for drinking water of 10 ppb.

Sound-based uroflowmetry (SU) offers a non-invasive alternative to traditional uroflowmetry (UF) for evaluating lower urinary tract dysfunctions, enabling home-based testing and reducing the need for clinic visits. This study compares SU and UF in estimating urine flow rate and voided volume in 50 male volunteers (aged 18-60), with UF results from a Minze uroflowmeter as the reference standard. Audio signals recorded during voiding were segmented and machine learning algorithms (gradient boosting, random forest, and support vector machine) estimated flow parameters from three devices: Ultramic384k, Mi A1 smartphone, and Oppo smartwatch.
