The indiscriminate use of plastic products and their inappropriate management and disposal contribute to the increasing presence and accumulation of this material in all environmental zones. The chemical properties of plastics and their resistance to natural degradation lead over time to the production of microplastics (MPs) and nanoplastics, which are dispersed in soil, water, and air and can be absorbed by plants, including those grown for food. In agriculture, MPs can come from many sources (mulch film, tractor tires, compost, fertilizers, and pesticides).

Plum pox virus (PPV) is the etiological agent of sharka, the most important viral disease of stone fruit worldwide. In this study, a one-step reverse transcription real-time PCR test (RT-qPCR) was modified and translated as a one-step RT-droplet digital PCR (RT-ddPCR) for sensitive, direct, and accurate detection and quantification of PPV. The modified RT-qPCR and RT-ddPCR PPV detection tests were validated using both plant purified total RNA (TRNA) and crude extract as templates.

Background: Acute neuropsychiatric disorders are heterogeneous conditions resulting from interaction between genetic and environmental features. Among these, post infectious forms like Pediatric Acute-onset Neuropsychiatric Syndrome (PANS) and Pediatric Autoimmune Neuropsychiatric Disorders Associated with Streptococcal Infections (PANDAS) are common. Preclinical studies suggest a role of CNS T-helper-17/interleukin-17 (IL-17) inflammatory mediated response in the pathogenesis of these disorders.

Purpose: Despite the impact of physician-scientists on scientific discovery and translational medicine, several reports have signalled their declining workforce, reduced funding, and insufficient protected research time. Given the paucity of outcome data on Canadian MD/PhD programs, this study presents a national portrait of the sociodemographic characteristics, training trajectories, productivity, and satisfaction in trainees and alumni from Canadian MD/PhD and MD/MSc programs.

Methods: Quantitative data were collected in a national survey launched in 2021.

Tomato fruit blotch virus (ToFBV) (, family ) was firstly identified in Italy in 2018 in tomato plants that showed the uneven, blotchy ripening and dimpling of fruits. Subsequent High-Throughput Sequencing (HTS) analysis allowed ToFBV to be identified in samples collected in Australia, Brazil, and several European countries, and its presence in tomato crops was dated back to 2012. In 2023, the virus was found to be associated with two outbreaks in Italy and Belgium, and it was included in the EPPO Alert list as a potential new threat for tomato fruit production.
