C3 deposits worsens the prognosis in type iii extracapillary glomerulonephritis.

Introduction: Type iii extracapillary glomerulonephritis (PEGN) is a common cause of rapidly progressive glomerulonephritis and it is usually associated with circulating anti-neutrophil cytoplasmic antibodies (ANCAs). Recent evidence points to complement activation as an important factor in the pathogenesis of PEGN. The aim of the present study was to assess the value of C3 deposits in the prognosis of PEGN.

Background: Pancreas-kidney transplantation (PKT) is the best therapeutic option for diabetic patients with end-stage renal failure. Peripheral insulin resistance and the percentage of remaining β-cells in the PKT have been little studied in medical literature.

Methods: We analyzed PKT performed in our hospital from January 1992 to January 2014, with follow-up for 5 years.
