Frailty in severe COVID-19 survivors after ICU admission. A prospective and multicenter study in Mexico.

Objective: To analyze the presence of frailty in survivors of severe COVID-19 admitted in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and followed six months after discharge.

Design: An observational, prospective and multicenter, nation-wide study.

Setting: Eight adult ICU across eight academic acute care hospitals in Mexico.

Niche-specific macrophage loss promotes skin capillary aging.

All mammalian organs depend upon resident macrophage populations to coordinate repair processes and facilitate tissue-specific functions. Recent work has established that functionally distinct macrophage populations reside in discrete tissue niches and are replenished through some combination of local proliferation and monocyte recruitment. Moreover, decline in macrophage abundance and function in tissues has been shown to contribute to many age-associated pathologies, such as atherosclerosis, cancer, and neurodegeneration.

Effect of the Nordmøre grid bar spacing on size selectivity, catch efficiency and bycatch of the Barents Sea Northern shrimp fishery.

The introduction of the Nordmøre grid in shrimp trawls has reduced the bycatch of non-target species. In the Norwegian Northern shrimp (Pandalus borealis) fishery, the mandatory selective gear consists of a Nordmøre grid with 19 mm bar spacing combined with a 35 mm mesh size diamond mesh codend. However, fish bycatch in shrimp trawls remains a challenge and further modifications of the gear that can improve selectivity are still sought.

Linking health education, civic engagement, and research at a large Federally Qualified Health Center to address health disparities.

Objective: To develop a framework for patient-centered research in a community health center.

Study Setting: Primary organizational case-study data were collected at a large Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) in Southern California from 2019 to 2021.

Study Design: Thirty stakeholders, including patients, community leaders, students, medical providers, and academic partners, participated in community-engagement capacity-building exercises and planning.
