Spinal cord ischemia syndrome (SCIS) is a serious complication which may occur after either internal or surgical diseases in newborn, young children, teenagers and adults; it is also followed by paraplegia. The onset is acute in 95% of cases. In the other cases the onset may be subacute, developing within one week, or it may be chronic, with slow, progressive development, within a few months to a year.
