Background: Metabolic bone disease (MBD) of newborns (NB) is characterized by tissue reduction and inadequate postnatal bone mineralization with clinical, laboratory, and/or radiologic repercussions between the third and twelfth weeks of postnatal life, which, in its most severe forms, can lead to a growth deficit and fractures. The aim of our study is to evaluate the incidence of MBD in premature patients receiving parenteral nutrition for >15 days in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) and assess their clinical and laboratory characteristics.
Methods: Single-center retrospective cohort study.
In general, mercury (Hg) undergoes biomagnification in aquatic systems. The absence of Hg biomagnification in a certain aquatic environment constitutes an exceptional finding and this seems to be the case for Sepetiba Bay, in Rio de Janeiro state (RJ), Brazil. There are three distinct ecological populations of Guiana dolphins in the Sepetiba Bay (SB)-Ilha Grande Bay (IGB) Complex, inhabiting: (1) the inner part of SB; (2) SB entrance; and (3) IGB.

Previous bioacoustic and morphological studies suggest that environmental pressures have influenced the evolution of echolocation in toothed whales. This hypothesis demands further investigation, especially regarding the molecular mechanisms involved in the adaptive radiation of toothed whales across multiple habitats.

Numerous forms of physical training for this population have been studied through high-quality randomized clinical trials involving strength, flexibility, aerobic conditioning and multicomponent exercise interventions. This research evaluated the effectiveness of a functional exercise program at reducing pain, improving functional capacity, increasing muscle strength as well as improving flexibility, balance and quality of life in individuals with fibromyalgia.
