[Paradigm shift in conservative dentistry: the end of the amalgam era].

Dental amalgam has been used for more than 150 years due to its beneficial mechanical properties and durability in dentistry. In the past and to date, many questions about amalgam restorations have arisen, especially regarding the mercury content, which has been the subject of global disputes. By presenting the past and present of the 'amalgam issue', the aim of our paper is to display the current position of international literature.

Color difference thresholds in dentistry.

Purpose: The aim of this prospective multicenter study was to determine 50:50% perceptibility threshold (PT) and 50:50% acceptability threshold (AT) of dental ceramic under simulated clinical settings.

Materials And Methods: The spectral radiance of 63 monochromatic ceramic specimens was determined using a non-contact spectroradiometer. A total of 60 specimen pairs, divided into 3 sets of 20 specimen pairs (medium to light shades, medium to dark shades, and dark shades), were selected for psychophysical experiment.

[Effectiveness of standardized direct suggestions in dental hypnosis].

The frequency of occurrence of amnesia, analgesia and time distortion during hypnotic dental treatments (n = 60) was investigated on high dental anxiety patients. Hypnosis with and without standardised direct suggestions related to amnesia, analgesia and time distortion were compared. Treatment of alert patients without direct suggestions (n = 10) were also used for comparison.

[Classification of epileptic diseases according to potential of fitting with dental prosthesis].

Epileptic patients seem to have generally poorer dental condition in comparison with the healthy population for many reasons. It is important to endeavor to provide the same dental care to epileptic patients than to others, however certain factors in connection with their disease must be taken into consideration. Among these, the most important is to concern about the type of seizure with special emphasis on the involvement of the masticatory apparatus and the chances of oral soft tissue injuries and aspiration.

[History of the teaching of odontotechnology at the University of Budapest].

The teaching of odontotechnology at the University of Budapest has a more than 100 years history. It was started in the Academic Dental Institute led by József Arkövy. The first lecturer and practice instructor was Lajos Hattyasy.
