The effects of feeding corn fines (screenings) containing mycotoxin levels greater than the FDA guidance (fumonisins) and advisory (deoxynivalenol) levels were evaluated using 150 crossbred pigs (initial BW: 6.42 ± 0.06 kg; 90 barrows and 60 gilts) in an 8-wk study by adding contaminated corn fines to create six diets.

Mycotoxins in feed are known to negatively affect growth and other physiological processes in pigs. Two experiments were conducted to investigate the effects of feeding diets with varying levels of mycotoxins and boron (a nutrient reported to mitigate some aspects of mycotoxicosis). Screenings from the 2020 crop year corn contained mycotoxin levels of 23,038 ppb total fumonisins (FUM), 1,446 ppb zearalenone (ZEA), and 5,032 ppb total deoxynivalenol (DON).

Climatic change and increased use of alternative sources of feed ingredients could influence poultry production. Mycotoxin and oxidized oil are two contaminations that may occur in chicken feed as a result of climate change and use of alternative feed ingredients, and these factors may have differential and potentially additive effects on birds' intestinal microbiota. The study objective was to determine the main effects of corn, oil quality, and their interaction on ileal content, ileal scrapings, cecal content, and whole cecum (content and tissue) microbiota in broiler chickens.

The cationic molybdenum alkylidyne -heterocyclic carbene (NHC) complex [Mo(C--OMeCH)(OCMe(CF)) (IMes)][B(Ar] (IMes = 1,3-dimesitylimidazol-2-ylidene) was selectively immobilized inside the pores of ordered mesoporous silica (OMS) with pore diameters of 66, 56, and 28 Å and used in the ring-expansion metathesis polymerization (REMP) of cyclic olefins to yield cyclic polymers. A strong confinement effect was observed for -cyclooctene (COE), 1,5-cyclooctadiene (COD), (+)-2,3--dicarbomethoxynorborn-5-ene ((+)-DCMNBE), and 2-methyl-2-phenylcycloprop-1-ene (MPCP), allowing for the synthesis of low-molecular-weight cyclic polymers even at a high monomer concentration. The exclusive formation of cyclic polymers was demonstrated by matrix-assisted laser desorption ionization time-of-flight (MALDI-TOF) mass spectrometry.

Background: Mobility assessment is essential for monitoring disease progression in people with multiple sclerosis (PwMS). Technologies such as wearable sensors show potential for this purpose, but consensus is needed to optimize collection and interpretation of digital measures in PwMS.

Objective: To propose a framework for measuring and interpreting key aspects of impaired gait in PwMS using a smartphone worn at the waist level.
