Motor competence is related to a large number of correlates of different natures, forming together a system with flexible parts that are synergically and cooperatively connected to produce a wide range of motor outcomes that cannot be explained from a predetermined linear view or a unique mechanism. The diversity of interacting correlates, the various connections between them, and the fast changes between assessments at different time points are clear barriers to the study of motor competence. In this manuscript, we present a multilayer framework that accounts for the theoretical background and the potential mathematical procedures necessary to represent the non-linear, complex, and dynamic relationships between several underlying correlates that emerge as a motor competence network.

Background: Asthma in children is a leading cause of missed school days, emergency department visits, and hospitalizations. Approximately 40% of children with asthma experience uncontrolled disease and annual exacerbations. There is a need for a validated composite tool for children, such as the Asthma Impairment and Risk Questionnaire (AIRQ), which was developed to assess current control and predict exacerbations in adolescents and adults with asthma.

Introduction: The main risk factors of necrotising enterocolitis (NEC) are prematurity and low birth weight. The aim of our study was to identify risk factors for NEC in patients with duct-dependent congenital heart disease (CHD).

The Ozaki procedure is a surgical technique which avoids to implant foreign aortic valve prostheses in human heart, using the patient's own pericardium. Although this approach has well-identified benefits, it is still a topic of debate in the cardiac surgical community, which prevents its larger use to treat valve pathologies. This is linked to the actual lack of knowledge regarding the dynamics of tissue deformations and surrounding blood flow for this autograft pericardial valve.
