Unlabelled: Embryonic hematopoietic stem and progenitor cells (HSPCs) have the unique ability to undergo rapid proliferation while maintaining multipotency, a clinically-valuable quality which currently cannot be replicated in vitro. Here, we show that embryonic HSPCs achieve this state by precise spatio-temporal regulation of reactive oxygen species (ROS) via Bnip3lb-associated developmentally-programmed mitophagy, a distinct autophagic regulatory mechanism from that of adult HSPCs. While ROS drives HSPC specification in the dorsal aorta, scRNAseq and live-imaging of zebrafish indicate that mitophagy initiates as HSPCs undergo endothelial-to-hematopoietic transition and colonize the caudal hematopoietic tissue (CHT).

Ultra-low-radioactivity titanium alloys are promising materials for the manufacture of low-background detectors which are being developed for experiments in astroparticle physics and neutrino astrophysics. Structural titanium is manufactured on an industrial scale from titanium sponge. The ultra-low-background titanium sponge can be produced on an industrial scale with a contamination level of less than 1 mBq/kg of uranium and thorium isotopes.

Infections of burn wounds are serious complications and require effective and pathogen-specific therapy. Anosognosia is a multifaceted syndrome characterized by a lack of awareness of motor, cognitive, or emotional deficits. While most studies have focused on basic motor disorders such as hemiplegia, only recently, the issue of whether anosognosia also concerns higher-order motor disorders like apraxia has been addressed. Here, we explore the existence of a specific form of anosognosia for apraxia in forty patients with uni-hemispheric vascular lesions.

To describe a mobile defect in polyacetylene chains, Su, Schrieffer and Heeger formulated a model assuming two degenerate energy configurations that are characterized by two different topological phases. An immediate consequence was the emergence of a soliton-type edge state located at the boundary between two regions of different configurations. Besides giving first insights in the electrical properties of polyacetylene materials, interest in this effect also stems from its close connection to states with fractional charge from relativistic field theory.
