The evolution of clinical neuropsychology in Puerto Rico: A survey of education, training, barriers, and opportunities for a bilingual population.

To examine neuropsychology education and training in Puerto Rico (PR) and identify areas of growth within neuropsychology curricula in graduate programs. A survey was conducted among 44 psychology graduate students, 21 psychologists, and 17 neuropsychologists in PR to assess interest in neuropsychology, education and training experiences, training barriers, professional affiliations, awareness of the Houston Conference Guidelines (HCG), knowledge of competitive neuropsychology internships in the United States (US), and attitudes toward neuropsychology training in PR. Comparisons were made to evaluate PR's alignment with the US HCG standards.

RSV-Bacterial Co-Infection Is Associated With Increased Illness Severity in Hospitalized Children - Results From a Prospective Sentinel Surveillance Study.

During the autumn/winter respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) epidemics, bacterial co-infection is common and affects the disease severity. We aimed to understand the relationship between RSV-bacterial co-infections and clinical severity since the RSV seasonality change after COVID-19 pandemic. We conducted a prospective, sentinel surveillance study at 20 sites in Portugal in children under 2 years hospitalized with RSV, between April 21 and January 23.

Barriers and Facilitators to Motivation for Work and School in First Episode Psychosis: A Qualitative Exploration.

Aim: Decreased motivation has been found to be the strongest predictor of poor work or school functioning among individuals with psychosis. Since motivation decreases immediately following onset of psychosis, it may be an ideal potential target for intervention. The aim of this study was to explore the specific barriers and facilitators to motivation through experiences of those living with first episode psychosis.

GC/MS Fatty Acid Profile of Marine-Derived Actinomycetes from Extreme Environments: Chemotaxonomic Insights and Biotechnological Potential.

This study investigated the fatty acids (FA) profile of 54 actinomycete strains isolated from marine sediments collected off the Portugal continental coast, specifically from the Estremadura Spur pockmarks field, by GC/MS. Fatty acid methyl esters (FAMEs) were prepared from the ethyl acetate lipidic extracts of these strains and analyzed by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC/MS), with FA identification performed using the NIST library. The identified FAs varied from C12:0 to C20:0, where 32 distinct FAs were identified, including 7 branched-chain fatty acids (BCFAs), 9 odd-chain fatty acids (OCFAs), 8 monounsaturated fatty acids (MUFAs), 6 saturated fatty acids (SFAs), 1 polyunsaturated fatty acid (PUFA), and 1 cyclic chain fatty acid (CCFA).
