Exposure of suckling rats to hexavalent chromium (CrVI) alters bone formation at the base of the alveolus causing a delay in tooth eruption.

Objectives: Hexavalent chromium (CrVI)-exposure of suckling rats has been shown to delay tooth eruption. However, the effects of CrVI-exposure on bone formation at the base of the alveolus, which provides a motive force for tooth eruption in the early stages of the process, remain unknown. The present work sought to evaluate the effect of CrVI-exposure on bone formation at the base of the alveolus during the intraosseous stage of tooth eruption in suckling rats, using histomorphometric and immunohistochemical studies.

SSR181507, a dopamine D₂ receptor antagonist/partial agonist and 5-HT(₁A) receptor agonist, is active in animal models of schizophrenia. Furthermore, it shows activity in several anxiety and/or depression models (Depoortere et al. 2003).

Effect of monosodium olpadronate on osteoclasts and megakaryocytes: an in vivo study.

Bisphosphonates (BPs) are widely used to treat several bone pathologies. Their action on bone cells depends on cell lineage, promoting or preventing apoptosis in osteoclastic and osteoblastic lineage respectively. Bone cells and bone marrow (BM) are closely related.

Use of the infra hyoid musculo-cutaneous flap in soft palate reconstruction.

Aims: To review a series of 23 consecutive patients with squamous cell carcinomas arising from oropharynx who underwent infra hyoid musculo-cutaneous flap reconstruction including soft palate in alternative to free radial forearm flap or maxillofacial prosthesis. Post operative radiotherapy was performed for all patients.

Results: Every reconstruction healed quickly without major wound complications.
